Louise Scott
Louise Scott grew up in the industrial town of Rochdale, Lancs, but her most eagerly awaited time of the year was always the family’s trip up to the Highlands of Scotland at Easter.
She attended Cheltenham college of Art and graduated with a BA(honours) in Fine art Printmaking in 1986. After a number of jobs including Museum Curator and crew member of a converted holiday trawler she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Countryside Management at Bangor College, North Wales.
After a number of years working within Nature Conservation and Bird Observatories across the UK she ended up at North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory, Orkney in 1992.
It was whilst living on this tiny island that she had an unexpected and exhilarating ‘meeting’ with a Seal when snorkelling by the islands harbour. This experience galvanised a need to start her artwork again which had lapsed over the years. Due to a lack of facilities Louise used a sewing needle to complete her first etching ‘Seal Rising’ and has continued to use a similar method – albeit with a magnifying glass now!
Moving to South Ronaldsay in 1996 she exhibited and worked in her gallery, The Inkstone Gallery until 2009 when she moved with her two daughters to Glasgow. She now has a studio in Dennistoun and prints at The Glasgow Print Studio.
