Matthew Snowden is from Heswall on the Wirral. He studied Art and then Industrial Design.
Matthew has been a full-time professional artist for over 25 years, with regular solo exhibitions across Wales and England but this is his first exhibition in Scotland, despite painting the Scottish landscape for many years.
Matthew’s inspiration is drawn from the rugged coastlines of the UK, their ancient history and ever-changing light. Every year he packs up his motorhome with equipment and provisions for a few weeks wild camping. He spends his time photographing and sketching the landscape, with his Welsh Springer Spaniel for company.
His bold, intuitive style of painting uses copious amounts of paint and a palette knife, creating astonishing textural works that are dynamic and powerfully moving. These paintings, executed in impasto acrylic, have attracted a wide following amongst art collectors. They are in many private and prestigious collections including The National Library of Wales and The Williamson Art Gallery and Museum.
