Gallery owner Lucinda Middleton was originally inspired to create this exhibition after seeing the beautiful paintings of Venice by Jean Martin RSW and then works by Mhairi McGregor RSW and by Charles MacQueen RSW RGI. She realised that Italy was a favourite subject for many of the artists whose paintings are shown at the gallery and the exhibition was born.
As well as these artists, the exhibition includes 2 paintings by John Lowrie Morrison MBE who has recently expanded his subject matter beyond Scotland. Other key exhibitors are Christine Woodside RSW RGI, Jennifer Irvine RSW RGI and Morag Muir RSW who bring their distinct styles to their Italian subject matter. The exhibition line-up is completed by Margaret Evans, Anne Skinner, new gallery artist Sandra Dickie, plus prints from Cat Outram.
This exhibition also celebrates the talented glass makers whose work is shown regularly in the gallery, especially Michael Hunter of Twists Glass Studios who uses a Venetian technique in many of his works. Other glass artists on show are: Kim Bramley, Elin Isaksson, Black Cat Glass, Gregg Anston-Race, Graham Muir and Charonne Ruth. Not all of the glass works are on the website so do come to the gallery to see for yourselves or enquire for further information.
