Erraid Gaskell
Erraid Gaskell is a contemporary landscape artist. Her vivid landscapes do not copy Nature, but rather explore intense experience and dreaming through memory and imagination, creating form and a sense of place. Her paintings can be placed at the intersection of landscape and dreamscape.
Erraid was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1997 and spent her childhood growing up on the Black Isle. Her adolescence was spent between Perthshire and Dhaka (Bangladesh). She has also lived in Australia as well as travelling extensively.
Now based back in Scotland, her work is informed by her travels and her experiences of different places: far and near. As such, Erraid considers herself to be a person of many different places –and this is reflected in her work. She uses a wide range of materials such as acrylic, pastel, collage and oil.
From 2016 to 2020, she trained and graduated from Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, specialising in Fine Art. Since graduating, Erraid has successfully established her art practice and paints from her home studio in Edinburgh.
“The notion of seeing with ‘our mind’s eye’, refers to our dreams, feelings and memories. My memories of places become a patchwork of colour, form and texture.”
